Qualifications, background and skills of our highly experienced team…
Philip Wheen – Principal Physiotherapist– B.App.Sc(Physiotherapy)(Syd), B.App.Sc(Orthoptics)(Syd)
Philip has been rehabilitating clients for over 25 years as a Physiotherapist and Orthoptist. As the founder of Physio 2 You, he is passionate about the philosophy behind this unique home visit service which is to maximise independence, and ensure a high level of care and satisfaction is provided to every client in an environment that is relevant and convenient to them. He realised this focus of therapy was important to him, back soon after he graduated as a physiotherapist in 1999. When working in one of Sydney’s hospitals, he noticed a patient’s discharge destination had very little physiotherapy coverage, so he made it his ambition to provide this service for his clients.
He has a special interest in Neurological Rehabilitation and is fortunate to have began his health career with a Bachelor Degree as an Orthoptist in 1993. This additional qualification and experience gives him valuable knowledge about how the visual system, and any deficits, can be managed appropriately plus how it can influence techniques used in his physiotherapy rehabilitation.
In his role as a physiotherapist he has worked primarily in the area of complex rehabilitation and has enjoyed working at multiple hospitals in Sydney such as Liverpool Brain Injury Unit; Lady Davidson and Mount Wilga Private Hospitals; and Mona Vale Hospital. He has also been fortunate to have worked interstate at Royal Hobart Hospital, Tasmania, and overseas in Cardiff, Wales at “Rookwood Specialist Neuro Rehabilitation Unit” before moving to New Zealand to work at Christchurch Hospital. It was then in Queenstown where he began his involvement in Physiotherapy home visits treating primarily clients with complex neurological conditions before continuing that back in Christchurch again. Upon returning to Sydney he enjoyed working at Royal Rehabilitation Centre Sydney (now known as Royal Rehab), where he found great satisfaction in treating clients in the; Specialist Spinal injury, brain injury, stroke and home based rehabilitation units.
Outside of Physiotherapy he enjoys the outdoors and is passionate about paragliding, and other wind/water sports. He is a fond teller of “Dad Jokes”, which is a complimentary service, however, please do not feel obliged to laugh, however it helps!! He also enjoys spending time with his lovely family and going on trips in their caravan.
